Now entering his fifth season of WEC competition Maurizio Micheluz has good reason to look back on the last two years and feel reasonably satisfied.
In 2005 Maurizio proved to be one of Italy’s brightest enduro stars but 2006 provided the breakthrough. In only his third full WEC he finished in a creditable fifth position in the Enduro 1 World Championship. With such a result the mild mannered former 125cc European Enduro Champion continued his rise up the international enduro ranks. Numerous impressive performances, including a podium finish at his home round of the series in Italy boosted his profile.
2007 saw the start of a third year of alliance with the UFO Course Yamaha team and although he wasn’t able to penetrate the top six of the final rider standings he did get incredibly close to podium positions in Italy and Slovakia. The highlight was undoubtedly his selection and participation as a member of the victorious Italian International Six Days Enduro Trophy Team, who topped the 82nd running of the event staged in Chile.
