Yamaha Van Beers racer Katherine Prumm attended the Grand Prix at Teutschenthal just four days after having a plate inserted into her left collarbone that was broken in four places after a training accident in Belgium this week.
The double Women’s World Cup winner admitted that she will miss the final round of five in the inaugural World Championship at Lierop on September 7th and will fly back to New Zealand on Tuesday to meet with her surgeon and discuss a date for a reconstruction of her right knee.
“It is fair to say that this has not been the year that I wished for,” the 20 year old commented. “I have had fantastic support from Van Beers and Yamaha but it was a case of ‘third strike and out’ and luck was against me. The 2009 World Championship looks like it will grow a lot, in some ways this is excellent but there are still some important details that need to be sorted out in the interests of the competitors. Anyway, I hope to be back and pushing for that title next season.”
The penultimate race of the Women’s series was won by Stephania Laier with Livia Lancelot in second and Maria Franke third. Prumm is now fifth in the standings.
